Our Mission

The Uwharrie Wheelmen all share a passion for cycling, be it recreational riding on the roads and trails of our area or competitive cycling in events throughout the region and beyond.  As a group we intend to promote our sport and this region in a variety of ways.

The Uwharrie Wheelmen is a channel for those who enjoy cycling or would like to learn more about cycling.  Whether it’s the formation of group rides or an introduction to the sport, the Uwharrie Wheelmen offer a place to connect with other riders as well as learn about the sport in general.  Whether you’ve got an old bike collecting dust somewhere that needs to be ridden or you’re a kid who likes to ride and may be curious about the various avenues of cycling, our bike club has something for you.  We promote fun and fitness.

Cycling events are popular vehicles for charitable fund raising.  Many communities, churches, and organizations use cycling events as a way to raise needed funds for a good cause, such as the Tour De Kale in Rowan County.  The Uwharrie Wheelmen intend to work with various local organizations to form an annual cycling event in our area.  Such events will have a positive impact in the community.

Our community, Stanly and surrounding counties, offer some spectacular places to ride.  Be it the many back roads that amble through panoramic farmlands, our own Morrow Mountain, or the vast trail systems of the Uwharries, we have much to offer cyclists looking for challenging and beautiful terrain.  The Uwharrie Wheelmen create awareness of all the area has to offer cyclists or anyone with interest in outdoor recreation.  Through this awareness we can introduce others to the unique offerings of our community and, in return, capitalize on some of our finest assets.
